It's really gone too far.

It's been over a year now since COVID-19 made it's first appearance on the world stage. And like a bad guest it's overstaying it's welcome. Through mutations, pools of the populace resisting preventative treatment, as well as an annoying ability to re-infect some folks this bug keeps defying the expert's expectations.

Or are they experts? In order to be qualified as an expert you have to possess advanced knowledge on the matter. While the people who have been making frequent appearances before the press are highly trained scientists and physicians, they have little to no prior background with this virus. For all their degrees and years running this program or that they really are in the dark about how this bug operates. The guy at the podium is making a lot of guesses, perhaps well-grounded, perhaps not about what is going on and what to do about it.

Meanwhile public officials had to do something. In the name of public safety a vast array of policies, regulations, and proclamations began to appear. Go home, wear this, move apart, get a shot, get two, try three, don't eat out, stay out of church. Did all of this make sense? The expert said so. Then again, he changed his mind a few times too.

Some conservative governors have begun to doubt the "experts". Despite withering criticism from left-leaning pundits those states began to lift restrictions in order to let their citizens get back to a normal life. For many things that plan of action has worked, allowing citizens to socialize and their economy begin to recover. Sometimes there have been spikes in infection, usually among those that shunned getting the shots.

Other governors with leftist thinking have gone down a different path. With any change in the virus infection rates or mutation came even more safety rules, increased regulation. What started as a series of emergency measures have taken on a life of their own as these state rulers are trying to retain their new powers.

Officials like Cuomo in New York, Whitmer in Michigan, and Newsome in California have begun to remind me of the Star Trek character Kodos the Executioner. The name was given to Kodos, governor of Tarsus IV after his reaction to a food emergency. Kodos enacted extreme measures.

The revolution is successful. But survival depends on drastic measures. Your continued existence represents a threat to the well-being of society. Your lives mean slow death to the more valued members of the colony. Therefore, I have no alternative but to sentence you to death. Your execution is so ordered, signed Kodos, Governor of Tarsus IV.

The unsettling part is the measures being put forth by the likes of Newsome,  Cuomo, and others are taking a similar tact to what Kodos did. Kodos selected his victims based on his own notions of eugenics. Eugenics was a major part of Margaret Sanger's work to create Planned Parenthood - a liberal bastion. How much further will the blue states go before they start posting termination orders?

The argument that these measures are to save lives is a lie. These are the same politicians in favor of open borders for the US. They are encouraging hundreds of people, many already sick to freely cross into this country and mix unchecked with the general population. Injecting such a large block of virus victims and carriers is in direct conflict with any public safety measures - all your work contain the virus just went up in smoke. Which makes all the rules and regulations a mere power-grab.

Cuomo is under investigation,  Newsome facing a recall.  One way or another these politicians need to be legally removed from office and hopefully brought to trial.  It can be done, without resorting to the antics of 6 January. Just use the existing laws

Thoughts from the Back Porch

It's been a busy couple of weeks recently. There was an attempt to assassinate former president Trump. Amid mounting pressure, President Biden quit his reelection effort. Vice President Harris is now the Democrat candidate for that office. Ukraine forces have crossed into Russia near Kursk, making substantial gains. It was a minor miracle that Mr. Trump survived the attempt on his life. The shooter was nearly at point-blank range for the AR-15 he was wielding. My observations on the matter... After the attempt and subsequent killing of Thomas Crooks, his parents seem unemotional. Your son tries to kill a nationally known figure, then is shot dead by a counter sniper, and you just go "oh well"? The detachment shown is striking. The shooter was alone on that rooftop. However I'm not convinced Crooks planned this attack by himself. Somebody managed to radicalize this man enough to want to assassinate a major political figure. Where did he get the idea of using drones, r

Deplorable - yes I am!!!

During the 2016 presidential election one candidate made a comment about some people favoring her opponent as being "deplorable". It was a comment that was intended to follow up another earlier presidential candidate's comment, in part saying, "They get bitter, they cling to guns or religion...". The deplorable comment really hit home and not in a positive way for the woman from New York by way of Arkansas and Illinois. I'm quite sure it cost her Wisconsin along with several other states. She's been in a petulant snit ever since, claiming she was robbed of the office she believes she was entitled to. What both candidates failed to understand is people do cling to religion and have a strong tie to owning firearms. It's not a weakness or some throwback attitude, but basic American philosophy. By trying to denigrate those attitudes they triggered a backlash so massive that years later they're still blinking and saying to themselves, "What h
